Girls’ Empowerment at the RSG
On Thursday, 23 April 2026, the MINT workshop on the topic of “Renewable Energies” began at Realschule Grünstraße in Hattingen for 15 technology-interested girls from Years 8 and 9. This project, funded by the Karl Kolle Foundation and carried out by the Women’s Project Laboratory of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, aims to inspire female students in particular to engage with STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
During the first two days, experiments on hydropower and wind energy were carried out. Afterwards, the participants independently built functional models related to solar energy and the use of hydrogen in fuel cells. The project concluded on the third day with a visit to the Women’s Project Laboratory at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, where the participants gained insights into robotics, electronics, and 3D printing.
The 15 students from RSG showed great interest and commitment while learning about new technologies and carrying out a wide range of experiments. Perhaps they are the engineers of the future.
