Climate tree-planting campaign for the future!

Climate tree-planting campaign for the future!

In the Schulenberg Forest, a new piece of the future is growing:

A large part of the around 500 young trees there were planted by our students – supported by the city of Hattingen and Volksbank Sprockhövel.

The background: many native tree species such as maple, beech, and spruce are increasingly suffering from droughts, storms, and pests. In order to keep our forest strong for the future, the young people, together with the city’s technical services, are focusing on climate-resilient species such as the service tree and giant sequoias. Under the guidance of district forester Thomas Jansen, an already established tree island was expanded with young saplings, which is intended to gradually transform the beech forest into a resilient mixed forest in the long term.

The initiator of the idea is Volksbank Sprockhövel, which is carrying out the project together with the city of Hattingen for the third time already and is supporting it with €5,000. The goal is to strengthen the forest while also inspiring young people to engage in climate protection.
